SSF x One billion rising 2015
We'll be celebrating VDAY2015 & OneBillionRising from our new training center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Until then, we've got our heads buried in the upcoming release of our mini-doc. An eight minute short tells the story of Studio Samuel and follows the steps one woman, Tsega, is taking to break her cycle of poverty, with dignity. The truest of humanitarian spirits, Julian Lennon, has lent is song and voice to the short film. We look forward to what 2015 brings and hope you'll join us.
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.
vday & one billion rising 2013 recap
STUDIO SAMUEL FOUNDATION BRINGS V-DAY's 1BILLION RISING
TO ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA ON FEBRUARY 14, 2013
Studio Samuel Foundation participated in the 2013 VDay 1Billion Rising global movement to end violence against women and girls, where over 200 countries participated. VDay founder, Eve Ensler, envisions "a planet which women and girls will be free to thrive, rather than merely survive." In conjunction with VDay happenings around the globe, Studio Samuel organized Rise Up Ethiopia on Februrary 14, 2012, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to celebrate with over 100 girls from the local kebele (township) and orphanage for girls.
Rise Up Ethiopia included screenings of a series of short films on empowerment, domestic violence, child marriage and poverty/education, including Eve Ensler's One Billion Rising short film and footage from the acclaimed Half the Sky and also ICRW. Following the screening there was a Q&A discussion for the girls with social workers, with the central theme: "What is YOUR change?".

Studio Samuel was able to create a safe haven and open environment for the group of women who attended which resulted in a productive discussion with many sharing their own stories and vocalizing issues between women and men within their community. Most importantly, these women expressed their readiness for change and willingness to come together to help each other.
To conclude the day, each woman was asked to write down the key change she wanted to see. Here are some of the extraordinary things they had to say.
We thank Mimi Hagler and her team for their efforts in bringing this together.
