Training for Tomorrow
The Program & The Girls
Starting at the core for girls in Ethiopia: Life Skills & Self-Esteem
Some girls have migrated from the countryside. Some were born on the streets, while others share a room with multiple family members. All are living in a marginalized situation at, or below, the poverty line.
Training for Tomorrow's two year curriculum runs parallel to traditional schooling and has been selected based on the current groups' needs. Modules are pulled from UN-based agencies, proven effective in previous testing. Focal areas range from self-esteem building workshops to computer literacy to occupational training, with a spotlight on counseling (group and individual) to address any past trauma. Our goal is for girls to realize their potential, trust in their self-worth and create options that avoid falling prey to the many at-risk job 'opportunities' girls fall victim to in a marginalized environment. We work closely with the local government, agencies and community. They observe our programs and select the beneficiaries who will most benefit. Training for Tomorrow has received positive feedback and praise from these agencies, leading to more groups taking notice and increased enrollment.
SPOTLIGHT PROGRAM: Job Training that Gives Back
Adhering to our model of community and sustainability, Training for Tomorrow's occupational training class incorporates both. A girl learns to sew basic stitches and fabric sourcing by making menstrual kits. The completed kits are then distributed to girls facing a high risk of dropping out of school because they don't have access to feminine hygiene supplies while menstruating. These are reusable kits, lasting three years. Our student learns to sew and another girl stays in school. More

The Caregivers
It's
not easy seeing beyond today when you're living in poverty. The girls
in our program, and their caregivers, truly see the importance of a
sustainable future and we're honored to work alongside them.
Studio Samuel's Board of Directors had the opportunity to spend quality time with our Training for Tomorrow students and their caregivers in Ethiopia recently. It was inspiring to hear the direct feedback. The first hand went up and another, and another. Did she just call us 'ground-breaking'? The next praised our efforts, using an example of her daughter's aggressiveness subsiding since entering TFT, another expressed improvement in grades from her granddaughter, the next confirming no other NGO in the area is offering the range of opportunity we are because of our mantra, Empowerment Without Pity. They approved AND they wanted more! They want their girls held accountable and they don't want hand-outs. We connected. |
Empowerment without Pity...one girl at a time.
